Dances for doingIn 2021, Galasso was commissioned to create an original, site-specific performance in response to a solo exhibition by artist Jen Bervin "Doing and Undoing" at the Catharine Clark Gallery in San Francisco.
Dances for Doing featured two distinct duets: one for Galasso's longtime collaborators Karla Quintero and Phoenicia Pettyjohn, and another for young dancer siblings Galicia and Santiago Stack Lozano. Galasso will employ the form of the duet to create intricate combinations of everyday gestures, resulting in otherworldly forms both familiar and strange. The duet, staged in the foyer of the gallery, and viewed by the audience from the other side of a glass wall, experiments with narrative, scale, and architecture. Composer Catherine McRae creates a haunting original score using violin, cello, and kalimba that accompanies Galasso’s choreography. Performances took place on May 1, May 2, and June 27, 2021 Dances For Doing was co-commissioned by Catherine Clark Gallery, BOXBLUR, and the San Francisco Dance Film Festival. |
