Cloud Dance 2.0 is a dance created in conversation with Lenore Tawney’s 1983 fiber sculpture Cloud Labyrinth. Commissioned by the Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin for the 2019 Tawney retrospective exhibition Mirror of the Universe, Cloud Dance 2.0 manifests in two forms: as a 20-minute live performance and as a 10-minute dance film.
For this new work, Galasso responded to this rare and monumental sculpture, but also to the work of her choreographer-mentor, Andy de Groat, who created a dance inside of one of Tawney’s Cloud installations in 1979, an event that was documented by filmmakers Robyn Brentano and Andy Horn as a film: Cloud Dance.
